TAR SURFACING PROCEDURE :
What makes a good tar surfacing Base?
- A ground free from weeds & roots
- A well levelled ground with a well dertemined drainage plan
- Strong Base
- Good Edging
- Goog Layer thickness
- Good compaction
In recognition of the above mentioned factors Tar ‘N’ Pave follows the following working procedure.
GROUND PREPARATION / EARTHWORKS
· This stage entails digging out the top soil and removal of all the vegetative materials and their roots (weeds).
· Leveling of the ground maintaining a well determined drainage plan.
· Compaction of the ground
NB: THE KIND OF MACHINERY TO BE USED WILL DEPEND ON THE SIZE OF THE PROJECT.
POSSIBLE MACHINERY
- Manual tools (picks, spades, wheel barrows and rakes)
- TLBs and/or Graders (big projects)
- BOMACs (size of machine will depend on the specific requirements of each job).
ERECTION OF THE BASE LAYER / IMPORTATION OF GRAVEL
Gravel G4 / G5 is imported and the base layer is constructed and compacted.
A strengthening agent may be incorporated in the base layer.
If there be need, a sub base may be constructed before the base layer (both are constructed from imported materials).
- The base layer must be strong before proceeding to the next stage.
KERBING
The edging kerbs are laid to support the paving.
PRIME WITH A BITUMEN BINDER SS60 – 60% EMULSION TACK COAT
LAYING UPON OUR STRONG BASE A CONTINUOUSLY GRADED HOT PREMIX 5% BINDER CONTENT.
- It is laid to an average consolidated thickness of 30mm after compaction.
Utility Tar Projects is obliged to rectify all workmanship defects within 24 months from the date of completing the project.
